Partner promotions at Wrigleys Solicitors 2019

15 May 2019

Wrigleys are pleased to announce 4 promotions in the firm's Leeds office.

Marie-Louise Hamilton, Managing Partner highlights how proud she is of the firm's ability to attract talent from top tier firms and Wrigleys' home-grown talent: "I am delighted with the promotions to and look forward to supporting each of the new partners in their roles, as they continue to develop their careers at Wrigleys.

Richard Whittaker and Lucy Hargreaves will add considerable strength and depth to a very busy private client department.  We are committed to ensuring that we can deliver excellent service and value to our clients, which requires strong technical and specialist lawyers, which we have in Richard and Lucy.

The fact that Louise Edwards and Richard Marson started their careers with us as trainees is something that we are extremely proud of, and is testament to our determination to provide opportunities and career progression for all our staff and within our niche areas."

Lucy Hargreaves

Lucy joined Wrigleys from Charles Russell Speechlys in August 2016 and works in the Private Client team.  She sits within the Rural and Landed Estates sub-group, and has a particular focus on acting for landed estates and clients with heritage property.  This includes advising a number of the firm's longstanding and high net worth clients.

'The part of the job I enjoy the most is advising individuals and trustees on trust formation, taxation and ongoing management including tax efficient restructuring. My move to Leeds was one driven by family and lifestyle, and Wrigleys was the obvious choice for me as a firm where I can work with a high calibre of clients and with colleagues whose expertise and experience is extremely well-renowned both inside and outside of London.'

Louise Edwards

Louise is senior member of our pensions team and has spent her whole legal career at Wrigleys after training here and qualifying in 2009. However her pensions experience pre-dates her starting Wrigleys through pensions administration, consultancy and trusteeship roles, giving her and Wrigleys 20 years experience. She advises trustees and sponsoring employers of occupational pension schemes on all aspects of pensions law.  She has particular experience and interest in advising trustees in relation to buy-in and buy-out exercises and the winding up of defined benefit pension schemes.

Louise is also a Director of Wrigleys Pensions Trustees Limited (WPTL) and responsible for the day to day management of the trusteeships held by WPTL.

"It has been a life changing experience to train and qualify as a solicitor at Wrigleys, to have the opportunity to participate in the growth and development of the firm, and now to become a partner."

Louise is a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers and a Fellow of the Pensions Management Institute.

Richard Marson

Richard Marson has also come through the ranks, training with Wrigleys and qualifying into the Property department where he acts for private clients and trusts in dealing with all aspects of commercial property law.  Since qualifying in 2011 Richard has built up extensive expertise in rail property, acting for train operating companies in relation to property law matters such as station & depot leasing, retail tenancies and station redevelopment projects.

"It is a privilege to work at a firm where its emphasis is on understated quality within its niche areas, whilst working in a collegiate and supportive environment.  Having started at Wrigleys as a trainee solicitor, it is exciting to be promoted to partner to be a part of the stewardship of the firm for the future."

Richard Whittaker

Richard is the most recent recruit of all our new partners as he joined the firm 15 months ago. Most of his time is spent on probate matters, wills and powers of attorney, whilst having experience and expertise in very high value estates.

'My specialist area is the administration of complex estates and the application of Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief.'

Richard is a member of Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and outside work is a board member of his local rugby club Hullensians RUFC.
