Department: Costs & Billing Team (Sheffield) – part of wider Court of Protection and Personal Injury Trusts (Sheffield)

Reports To: Head of Costs & Billing Team

Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a Law Costs Draftsperson to join our successful Court of Protection and Personal Injury Trusts Team based in Sheffield.

Working as part of the Costs & Billing Team, and wider Court of Protection and Personal Injury Trusts Team providing a costing service in respect to bills of costs in conjunction with the Senior Courts Costs Office (SCCO) whilst acting in the best interests of the client.

About the role

 General responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and submitting bills of costs to the SCCO

  • Noting relevant deadlines/key dates , acting in accordance with those deadlines and required processes

  • Liaising with colleagues internally to ensure all relevant information is captured in bills of costs

  • Reviewing bills following preliminary and final assessment.   Dealing with responses, appeals and negotiations with third parties and the SCCO

  • Liaising with external costs draftsmen, counsel, the SCCO and other external bodies

  • Service of bills of costs upon third parties

  • Understanding the assessment process and advising team leaders and colleagues with regard to best practice and improvement of recovery levels

  • Ensuring all reporting processes recorded and adhered to correctly

  • Ensuring the case management system is used effectively in accordance with agreed procedures.

Job Experience:

The ideal candidate

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Costs Draftsman in a Court of Protection Team

  • Proficient in the use of spreadsheets would be an advantage

  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Outstanding organisation skills

  • A methodical approach to working
