Pensions support for Trustees

Wrigleys’ Pensions Team advises the trustee boards of many small and medium sized occupational pension schemes; a significant number of whom are long standing clients.

Our pensions lawyers support their trustee clients by attending trustee meetings, delivering trustee training and advising on project work and day to day queries relating to the interpretation of scheme rules, the application of legislation and case law and the resolution of member complaints.

Our experienced team of pensions lawyers advise trustees on all stages of the pension scheme life cycle from the design and creation of new schemes to their closure and winding up.  Whatever stage of the journey, we are here to help so please get in touch to discuss how we can support your trustee board.

Recent experience

  • Advising the trustees of a defined benefit occupational pension scheme in connection with the buyout of the scheme’s liabilities with an insurance company, including the review and negotiation of the bulk annuity policy, the adjustment of benefits to remove the unequal effects of GMP (GMP equalisation) and the distribution of surplus.

  • Advising trustees on the Pensions Regulator’s draft Single Code including the requirements for an Effective System of Governance and Own Risk Assessment and delivering online trustee training sessions on the same.

  • Advising trustees on the legal issues arising on the without consent bulk transfer of DC assets to master trusts including the review and negotiation of the transfer agreement and prefunding arrangements.

‘The team has a creative approach to some complex issues, based upon strong technical knowledge.’
