Wrigleys Solicitors appointed to exclusive panel Deputy list

11 June 2015

Wrigleys are proud to join the Office of the Public Guardian's new panel of Deputies.

The role of Deputy involves a lot of responsibility to provide expert guidance to people who can be at their most vulnerable.

Ian Potter explains: "The Court of Protection can appoint a Deputy to help manage and deal with the financial affairs of a person who is mentally incapable of doing so for themselves.  This may be necessary when a person suffered a severe brain injury, stroke, if they have mental health problems or a degenerative condition such as Alzheimer's Disease."

The Office of the Public Guardian's list of panel Deputies, which comes up for renewal every 5 years, provides Judges with a list of professional Deputies who can be appointed when no-one else is willing or able to act for a person who lacks mental capacity.

Lynne Bradey, Head of the Court of Protection Team adds: "This puts the firm on a rather exclusive list of approved professional Deputies. We had to go through a rigorous selection process, so our inclusion on the list is welcomed recognition of our status as specialists in this area where care, sensitivity and expertise are important to look after vulnerable clients."

Wrigleys has a special focus on meeting the legal needs of individuals who are or may be vulnerable, injured, disabled or suffering from illness. More details of the advice tailored to managing finances, property and care can be found here

Ian recently won a British Medical Association Patient Information award for a booklet that he co-wrote with the brain injury charity Headway, entitled "Supporting People who Make Decisions Applying the Mental Capacity Act". More details about how to obtain a copy of the booklet and the BMA awards can be found here
