In a report published on 7th April 2016, The Kings Fund has identified 3 major challenges for the NHS:
• Sustaining existing services and standards of care
• Developing new and better models of care
• Tackling these challenges by reforming the NHS from within.
In the report, available here the authors look at each of these challenges in detail and make recommendations as to how they can be addressed. The report also contains a series of links to more detailed policy papers and other resources.
Austin Thornton, head of community care at Wrigleys said: "The NHS finds itself pressed from all sides with increasing demand both from an ageing population but also advances in technological capability, a very tight funding settlement from government, political sensitivity to proposals for reconfiguration and continuing organisational uncertainty. It is the ultimate hot potato. The Kings Fund is one of the best contributors to the debate on how its complex problems can be addressed."
