Part one: preventing problems arisingContentious topics - students' unions webinar series
This event is free to attend
Students’ unions have always been required to navigate contentious topics, from acting as referee in relation to student complaints to hosting debates and holding votes to set SU policy. At Wrigleys, we’ve seen an increase in the complexity and sensitivity in the types of topics which students’ unions are having to engage with, set against an ever-changing legislative background, which places new demands on SU staff and officers.
Join the Wrigleys team for two virtual panel discussions on handling contentious topics. The first webinar will look at some strategies to prevent problems from arising in the first place, with the second considering how problems may be managed once they’ve arisen. The panel will touch on freedom of speech, discrimination, harassment and the rules on ultra vires, as well as discussing what approach the various regulators are likely to take in relation to these things.
